Frequently Asked Questions: Groundworker Jobs in Hull

What kind of projects will I be working on as a Groundworker in Hull HU1?

Hull is a city undergoing significant regeneration and development. As a Groundworker placed by Quick Placement, you could be working on a diverse range of projects including new-build housing estates across the city, commercial and retail developments in the city centre (HU1), infrastructure projects like road and drainage improvements, public sector builds such as schools or healthcare facilities, and industrial warehouse developments in the port areas. The variety is one of the key attractions for skilled groundworkers in the region.

I have my CSCS card but my CPCS plant ticket has expired. Can I still apply?

Yes, you can still apply. A valid CSCS card is the primary mandatory requirement for site access. While holding current plant tickets (like for excavators, dumpers, or rollers) is a significant advantage and can command a higher pay rate, many Groundworker roles focus on manual skills, drainage, and concreting. We will match you with roles that suit your specific skill set. We can also advise on local training providers if you wish to renew your tickets. For more general queries, our comprehensive FAQs page has further information.

How quickly can I start working after applying?

For candidates with all documents in order (CSCS card, right to work, references), the process can be very swift. We have successfully placed Groundworkers on site within 24 hours of their initial application for emergency / rapid response staff requirements. Typically, the process from application to first shift takes 2-3 working days, allowing for document checks and client introductions. The key is having your paperwork ready. We operate with the same efficiency as our quick hire solutions in other regions.

What is the difference between PAYE and CIS, and which is better?

Under PAYE (Pay As You Earn), you are an employee of Quick Placement. Tax and National Insurance are deducted automatically, and you accrue statutory holiday pay. Under CIS (Construction Industry Scheme), you are considered a subcontractor. A flat-rate deduction is made from your pay (20% if you're registered, 30% if not), which covers tax, and you are responsible for your own National Insurance and holiday pay. The"better" option depends on your personal circumstances. Our consultants can explain both in detail to help you decide. This is a standard offering across our construction staffing solutions.

Do you provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)?

As a minimum, Quick Placement will provide you with a high-visibility vest bearing our agency logo. However, the provision of other core PPE (safety boots, hard hat, gloves, eye/ear protection) varies by client and site. Some clients have a mandatory site-specific PPE policy which they will provide. For other sites, you are expected to provide your own. This will be clarified during the pre-placement briefing for each specific assignment. Safety is our top priority, and wearing correct PPE is non-negotiable on any site.

Can temporary Groundworker work lead to a permanent job?

Absolutely. A large portion of our temporary placements are"temp-to-perm". This is a trial period for both you and the client to ensure it's a good fit. Many of our clients use temporary contracts as their primary method of recruiting permanent staff. By demonstrating your skill, reliability, and good attitude on site, you significantly increase your chances of being offered a direct, permanent position by the client. We facilitate this transition smoothly. It's a proven pathway, similar to opportunities in other sectors we serve like healthcare and hospitality.
