Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Prepare and analyse cost estimates, tender documents, contracts, budgets, and bills of quantities for commercial construction projects.
- Perform value engineering, cost control, and variance analysis to ensure projects remain within budget.
- Manage and negotiate subcontractor accounts, including interim valuations, final accounts, and agreement of variations.
- Provide detailed monthly cost reports and cash flow forecasts to senior management and clients.
- Advise on contractual claims and disputes, ensuring compliance with JCT/NEC forms of contract.
- Work collaboratively with project managers, site engineers, and the commercial team to maximise profitability.
Essential Skills & Requirements
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, preferably within a main contracting environment on projects valued from £1m+.
- A relevant degree (BSc in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management) and/or professional membership (RICS, CIOB) is highly desirable.
- Exceptional numerical, analytical, and IT skills, with advanced proficiency in MS Excel and industry software like CostX or Causeway.
- Strong knowledge of construction law, standard forms of contract (JCT/NEC), and procurement methods.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites within the Birmingham and West Midlands region.
