To give you a clearer picture of what this role entails, here’s a breakdown of a typical day for an Electrician on one of our major Blackpool projects, such as a commercial refurbishment or a new residential development.
Morning (7:30 AM - 12:00 PM)
- Site Induction & Toolbox Talk: Arrive on site, sign in, and participate in the daily safety briefing. Review any specific electrical plans or changes for the day’s work.
- First Fix Installations: Begin routing and installing conduit, trunking, and cabling for power, lighting, and data circuits as per the building’s first-fix stage. This requires precision and adherence to the provided schematics.
- Collaboration with Other Trades: Coordinate with carpenters studding walls and labourers to ensure pathways are clear and installations are integrated smoothly into the building fabric.
Afternoon (1:00 PM - 5:00 PM)
- Second Fix & Terminations: After the lunch break, focus on second-fix work: mounting back boxes, fitting sockets, switches, light fittings, and connecting consumer units. Attention to detail is critical here.
- Testing & Fault Finding: Use multimeters and other test equipment to perform continuity, insulation resistance, and polarity checks on completed circuits. Log any issues for immediate rectification.
- Certification & Clean-Up: Complete the relevant sections of the Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) or Minor Works Certificate. Ensure the work area is left clean, safe, and tidy, ready for the next day’s tasks or handover.
