Warehouse Cleaner Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and proactive Warehouse Cleaner to join a busy logistics and distribution centre in the heart of Camden NW1. This role is critical to maintaining a safe, efficient, and compliant working environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks across the warehouse floor, offices, and welfare facilities.

This position is being filled through Quick Placement – The Best Temp Agency In London, meaning you'll benefit from our expert support, fast payroll, and access to a wide range of other construction jobs and industrial roles across the capital. Our client is a well-established operator who values a clean and organised workspace for their staff and operations.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming all warehouse floor areas, aisles, and loading bays to remove dust, debris, and spillages.
  • Cleaning and sanitising all welfare areas including toilets, kitchens, canteens, and break rooms. This includes replenishing soap, towels, and other supplies.
  • Emptying all waste and recycling bins from workstations and common areas, ensuring proper segregation and disposal in line with site policy.
  • Wiping down machinery, workstations, conveyor belts (where safe to do so), and storage racking to prevent dust accumulation.
  • Using industrial cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers and pressure washers for deep cleaning tasks on a scheduled basis.
  • Reporting any maintenance issues, safety hazards (like wet floors or broken equipment), or supply shortages to the site supervisor.
  • Assisting with external area cleaning, including yard spaces, smoking areas, and pedestrian walkways, ensuring they are free of litter and safe.
  • Adhering strictly to all site Health & Safety regulations, including COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) when handling cleaning chemicals.

What We're Looking For (Requirements)

  • Proven experience in a similar cleaning role, ideally within a warehouse, factory, industrial, or construction site environment.
  • Reliability and a strong work ethic – the ability to work independently without constant supervision and complete tasks to a high standard.
  • Physical fitness – the role involves standing, walking, bending, and lifting light supplies for extended periods.
  • Health & Safety awareness – a clear understanding of safe working practices. Training can be provided, but prior knowledge is a plus.
  • Right to work in the UK and the ability to provide relevant documentation for our 7-step vetting process.

While not essential, any experience working alongside trades like a Carpenter / Joiner or Construction Worker is highly advantageous, as it demonstrates familiarity with dynamic worksites. Similarly, candidates with experience as a Construction Site Cleaner will be perfectly suited.

Why Warehouse Cleaning is a Critical Role

A Warehouse Cleaner is far more than just a janitorial position; it is a vital frontline role in operational health, safety, and efficiency. In a bustling Camden NW1 logistics hub, cleanliness directly impacts productivity, staff morale, and regulatory compliance.

Safety & Accident Prevention

Spillages, debris, and dust in aisles or near machinery are leading causes of slips, trips, and falls. A proactive cleaner systematically removes these hazards, creating a safer environment for all warehouse operatives, forklift drivers, and visitors. This role is crucial for maintaining the site's Health & Safety Executive (HSE) compliance.

Product Integrity & Pest Control

Dust and grime can contaminate stock, especially in facilities handling packaged goods, food-related items, or sensitive electronics. Regular, thorough cleaning deters pests such as rodents and insects, protecting inventory and preventing costly losses and infestation closures. Your work safeguards the client's assets and reputation.

This position offers a genuine sense of contribution. You are not working in isolation; you are an integral part of a team that keeps a major supply chain node running smoothly and safely for everyone from the General Labourers on the floor to the managers in the offices.

A Detailed Look at Your Shift: Morning Pattern Example

To give you a crystal-clear picture, here’s a breakdown of a typical early morning shift (6:00 AM - 2:00 PM) for a Warehouse Cleaner in Camden NW1:

Time Core Tasks & Focus Key Objective
6:00 AM - 7:30 AM High-Traffic Area Blitz: Sweep and mop main entrance, locker rooms, canteen, and office corridors. Empty overnight waste bins. Sanitise all kitchen and toilet surfaces. Prepare the site for the arrival of day staff, ensuring a clean and welcoming start for everyone.
7:30 AM - 10:00 AM Warehouse Floor Focus: Move to the operational floor. Sweep and clear aisles of packing debris. Use a ride-on scrubber for deep cleaning designated zones. Wipe down static equipment and safety barriers. Maintain a safe, debris-free working floor during peak morning operational activity.
10:00 AM - 10:15 AM Break
10:15 AM - 1:00 PM Detail & Replenishment: Conduct a second round of welfare area checks. Replenish soap, paper towels, and toilet rolls. Detail clean high-touch points (door handles, light switches). Tackle any specific deep-clean tasks scheduled for the day (e.g., cleaning loading bay doors). Ensure facilities remain stocked and hygienic throughout the day. Complete scheduled periodic tasks.
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Closing & Handover: Final walk-around to empty bins from workstations. Secure cleaning equipment and chemicals in the storage closet. Complete a brief checklist/report for the supervisor noting any issues (e.g., low stock, a broken tap). Leave the site in a tidy, safe, and audit-ready state for the afternoon/evening shift.

This structured approach ensures comprehensive coverage. Of course, flexibility is key—you may need to respond to an unexpected spill or support a special project. This variety keeps the role engaging and impactful.

Where Can This Role Lead? Career Progression

Starting as a Warehouse Cleaner with Quick Placement is often the first step on a stable career path within the industrial and logistics sector. Demonstrating reliability, initiative, and a strong understanding of site operations can open several doors:

👨‍🔧

Site Maintenance Assistant

By showing mechanical aptitude, you could transition into basic maintenance—changing light fittings, minor repairs, and porter duties. This role often comes with increased responsibility and pay.

📋

Cleaning Supervisor / Team Leader

For those with natural leadership skills, managing a small team of cleaners, managing stock, and planning cleaning schedules for larger sites is a common progression within 12-18 months.

🚛

Warehouse Operative

Many cleaners, already familiar with the warehouse layout and safety culture, move into picking, packing, or inventory roles. We actively support internal moves for our candidates.

Real-World Example:"John," a cleaner we placed in a Camden warehouse in 2023, consistently showed exceptional diligence. Within 8 months, he was offered a permanent role as a Stock Replenishment Assistant with a 15% pay increase. His story is not unique; we see it regularly.
