Full Job Description: Bus Driver / PCV Driver
Quick Placement is partnering with leading transport operators and local authorities in the Hull HU1 region to recruit professional, safety-conscious Bus and PCV Drivers. This is a pivotal role within the community, ensuring reliable public transport for residents, commuters, and visitors across East Yorkshire.
Successful candidates will operate modern single and double-decker buses on scheduled services, school contracts, and private hires. We pride ourselves on connecting skilled drivers with reputable employers who value professionalism and customer service. Whether you're seeking an immediate temporary position to bridge a gap or a long-term temp-to-perm career opportunity, registering with Quick Placement gives you access to unadvertised roles and dedicated local support, much like we provide for skilled construction teams across the UK.
This role is ideal for drivers who take pride in their PCV licence, enjoy interacting with the public, and understand the responsibility that comes with passenger safety. Our recruitment process is streamlined for speed without compromising on vetting, ensuring you can start earning quickly while we handle the admin.
1 Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties
- Safely operating a PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) in accordance with Highway Code and company regulations, performing pre- and post-journey vehicle checks.
- Providing excellent customer service to passengers, including assisting those with mobility needs, answering route enquiries, and maintaining a calm, professional demeanour.
- Adhering strictly to published timetables and routes, managing delays proactively, and communicating effectively with control rooms via radio systems.
- Handling cash and electronic ticketing systems accurately, ensuring correct fare collection and providing receipts where required.
- Maintaining a clean and presentable vehicle, reporting any defects, accidents, or incidents immediately through the correct channels.
- Potentially undertaking specific contracts such as school bus services, requiring enhanced DBS checks and a particular focus on child safety and welfare.
2 Essential & Desirable Requirements
Essential
- A full, valid UK PCV (Category D) driving licence with no more than 3 penalty points.
- A valid, up-to-date Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) card.
- Excellent knowledge of Highway Code and safe driving practices for large vehicles.
- The right to work in the UK indefinitely (we will conduct checks).
Highly Desirable
- Previous experience as a Bus Driver, Coach Driver, or PCV Driver in a UK setting.
- Familiarity with Hull, East Riding, and surrounding road networks.
- Experience with electronic ticketing machines (ETM) and cash handling.
- A friendly, patient attitude and strong communication skills.
Don't meet every single requirement? We value potential and the right attitude. If you have a valid PCV licence and are eager to work, get in touch – we may have other suitable roles or can advise on training.

Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions about becoming a Bus Driver / PCV Driver with Quick Placement in Hull? We've got answers.
For candidates with a valid PCV licence, Driver CPC, and right-to-work documents ready, the process can be incredibly fast. We've placed drivers within 72 hours of initial contact. The typical timeline is: Day 1 - Application & screening call; Day 2 - Document upload & client interview arranged; Day 3/4 - Interview and job offer; Following Monday - Start. Urgent cover needs can sometimes lead to a same-week start. The speed depends on your availability and how quickly we can verify your compliance documents.
Shift patterns vary by operator but generally fall into three categories: Early Shifts (starting between 4 am and 6 am, finishing early afternoon), Late Shifts (starting midday and finishing between 8 pm and midnight), and Split Shifts (a morning and evening peak service with a long break in the middle). We also have roles for weekend-only drivers and part-time school contract drivers (term-time only). During registration, we discuss your preferences to match you with suitable patterns. Flexibility often leads to more work opportunities.
Absolutely. We work with several approved training providers and can advise on local and online Driver CPC periodic training courses. In some cases, if you are a strong candidate missing only a few hours of training, our client partners may even sponsor or contribute towards the cost of your renewal courses as part of a temp-to-perm arrangement. It's crucial to address this early, as you cannot drive professionally without a valid CPC. Contact us as soon as you know your expiry date so we can plan accordingly.
Working through Quick Placement offers flexibility and access. Flexibility: You can try different operators and shift patterns without a long-term commitment. Access: We often fill roles that aren't advertised publicly or act as the first port of call for employers needing staff quickly. Support: You have a dedicated consultant for payroll, holiday queries, and issues, rather than being one of hundreds in a large HR system. Many drivers use agency work as a 'foot in the door' to secure a permanent position, which we actively facilitate. It's a low-risk way to find the right long-term fit, similar to how we place temps across London.
Yes, definitely. The transport industry values experienced drivers for supervisory and management roles. Common progression paths we've helped drivers move into include: Traffic Office / Controller (managing schedules and drivers from the depot), Driver Trainer/Assessor (training new PCV holders), Operations Manager, and Revenue Protection roles. We discuss career aspirations during registration and can highlight clients and temp-to-perm roles that have clear progression structures. Building a reputation for reliability and professionalism through agency work is an excellent way to get noticed for these opportunities.
