Frequently Asked Questions – Order Picker Jobs
An Order Picker (also known as a Warehouse Picker or Selector) is responsible for accurately selecting products from warehouse storage locations to fulfil customer orders. Using a handheld scanner or pick list, you locate items, check them for quality, pack them securely, and prepare them for dispatch. It's a vital, active role in the logistics chain that requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and efficiency. The role often involves working with various MHE (Material Handling Equipment) and requires strict adherence to health and safety standards.
Yes, absolutely. While experience is preferred, many of our clients in Blackpool are willing to train reliable, hard-working individuals. Transferable skills from roles such as retail, construction labouring, or any job requiring physical work, punctuality, and teamwork are highly valuable. We assess your attitude and willingness to learn just as much as your direct experience. We also provide guidance on what to expect in a warehouse environment.
Shift patterns can vary depending on the client and their operational needs. Common patterns include early morning starts (e.g., 6 am - 2 pm), day shifts (8 am - 4 pm, 9 am - 5 pm), and late afternoon/evening shifts (2 pm - 10 pm). Some warehouses also operate night shifts. There are often opportunities for part-time, full-time, and weekend work. When you speak with your Quick Placement consultant, be clear about your availability, and we will match you with roles that suit your preferred hours as closely as possible.
For urgent roles like this one in Blackpool FY1, the process can be very fast—sometimes within 24-48 hours. The speed depends on how quickly you can complete our registration and provide the necessary right-to-work documents (passport, share code, etc.). Our team works efficiently to process applications, and we have a track record of filling emergency shifts rapidly, as detailed in our resource 7-Step Vetting Process. The key is to respond promptly to our calls and emails.
A temporary (temp) role has a fixed end date or is ongoing with no guarantee of permanency—you are employed by Quick Placement and assigned to work at a client site. Temp-to-perm means the role starts as a temporary assignment with the clear intention from the client to potentially offer a permanent contract after a successful trial period (often 8-12 weeks). This is a fantastic way for both you and the employer to ensure it's a good fit before committing. Many of our Order Picker placements have strong temp-to-perm potential.
