Construction Worker Job Description: Swansea SA1
Quick Placement, a leading construction staffing agency, is seeking dedicated Construction Workers to join dynamic teams on commercial, residential, and civil engineering projects across the thriving Swansea SA1 region. This role is perfect for hands-on individuals who thrive in a fast-paced site environment and are looking for consistent work with a reputable agency.
Our clients range from principal contractors on large-scale developments to local building firms requiring skilled support. As a Construction Worker placed through us, you’ll be an essential part of Swansea’s growth, contributing to projects that shape the city's skyline and infrastructure. We pride ourselves on being more than just a top temp agency; we are your career partner, ensuring you are matched with roles that suit your skills and ambitions, much like we do for labourer jobs in London.
Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties
Your role as a Construction Worker in Swansea will be varied, requiring both physical stamina and a keen eye for detail. You will be expected to:
- General Site Labour: Assisting tradespeople, moving materials, loading/unloading deliveries, and ensuring a clean, safe, and organised worksite. This foundational work is crucial, similar to the support provided by a Construction Site Cleaner or Warehouse Cleaner in maintaining site efficiency.
- Groundworks & Preparation: Digging trenches, laying foundations, compacting soil, and installing drainage systems under the guidance of a site supervisor.
- Assisting Skilled Trades: Providing direct support to Carpenter / Joiner teams by measuring, cutting, and holding materials, or to bricklayers and plasterers by mixing mortar and fetching supplies.
- Operating Plant & Machinery: Safely using non-operated plant (after relevant training) such as dumpers, compactors, and cement mixers, following all site safety protocols (CPCS/CSCS).
- Health & Safety Compliance: Strictly adhering to all site-specific RAMS (Risk Assessment Method Statements), wearing correct PPE at all times, and participating in daily toolbox talks to promote a zero-accident culture.
- Finishing & Snagging Support: Assisting in the final phases of projects, which may include cleaning down areas, removing protective coverings, and helping with minor repairs or touch-ups.
Essential Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful in this Construction Worker role and to ensure your safety and that of others on site, you must meet the following criteria:
- Valid CSCS Card (Essential): A current Construction Skills Certification Scheme card is mandatory for access to most Swansea SA1 sites. We can advise on obtaining one if needed.
- Proven Site Experience: At least 6-12 months of experience in a similar construction labouring or general labourer role, preferably within the UK.
- Physical Fitness & Stamina: The ability to perform manual handling tasks, work on your feet for long periods, and operate in all weather conditions.
- Strong Safety Awareness: A genuine commitment to health and safety regulations. Knowledge of basic first aid is a significant advantage.
- Reliability & Punctuality: A strong work ethic, excellent timekeeping, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are non-negotiable.
- Right to Work in the UK: Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
Desirable Skills (Not Essential)
While not required, the following skills will make you a standout candidate and could lead to higher pay rates: IPAF/PASMA certification, CPCS card for plant operation, First Aid at Work certificate, or experience in specific sectors like groundworks, steel fixing, or formwork.

Frequently Asked Questions
For most general Construction Worker positions, basic PPE (hard hat, hi-vis vest, safety boots) is required. Some clients provide all PPE, while others expect you to have your own boots and hi-vis. Specialist tools are almost always provided by the employer. Your Quick Placement consultant will clarify the specific requirements for your assigned site during your briefing.
A valid CSCS card is a mandatory requirement for over 95% of construction sites in Swansea for safety and insurance reasons. However, we can often advise you on the quickest route to obtaining one, including pointing you towards local test centres for the required Health, Safety and Environment test. In rare cases, we may have non-site-based labouring work (e.g., in a yard) that doesn't require a card, but these are limited.
The standard pattern is Monday to Friday, 7:30/8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch break. However, we also have roles offering early starts, late finishes, and weekend work, often at enhanced rates. Some larger projects may operate shift patterns. Be sure to discuss your availability preferences with your consultant so we can match you with the most suitable site.
We operate a simple, reliable weekly PAYE payroll. You will submit your timesheet (usually digitally) at the end of the week. Once approved by the site manager, you will be paid directly into your bank account every Friday. All statutory deductions (Tax, NI, Pension auto-enrolment) are handled by us. You will receive a clear payslip each week detailing your earnings and deductions.
Absolutely. Many of our Construction Workers use temporary roles as a foot in the door with leading contractors. Demonstrating reliability, skill, and a good attitude often leads to offers of permanent employment, apprenticeships, or upskilling opportunities. We have seen workers progress to become site supervisors, machine operators, or train in a specific trade like Carpenter / Joiner. We discuss your career goals during registration to help facilitate this growth.
